The HBUFC school rainbow football league aims to do three things:
Cross community development - getting all the local schools to interact and play against each other once a week
Youth development and education - we are partnering with Woodworks to provide extra support with reading and writing in English for children on local school teams
Successful football - an organized 7-a-side school league on the astro-turf. Our programs are partnered by City of Cape Town and Expanded Public Works program providing stipends for coaches
Each week, teams (under 8's and under 10's) from every primary school across Hout Bay are brought together to play a 7-a-side football, and also participate in reading classes. The reading sessions are run by volunteers, who work with small groups of children (ages 8-10), supporting their language and literacy development through educational game and books. Coach mentors also assist, keeping children focused during the classes.
Persons With Disabilities Program
As a community club, to increase our support base and give back to the community, we felt like it will be a good idea to engage local NPO’s and NGO’s to foster working relations with them. We wanted to work with them so that the brand HBUFC can be recognized within the community and make a difference in the community of Hout Bay and to unite the community through the beautiful game. The clients of HBAPD are a mixture of old and young people who are disabled coming from 3 different Hout Bay communities. The elderly people who do not exercise and do not do any training because they partially disabled, we agreed to take them to the field were they will have exercises and fun games. The program runs every Wednesday between 13H00 and 14H00. If the weather does not permit we will go to their centre and do activities there. The program has grown from strength to strength since its inception. On Mandela Day we surprised them and prepared something and took it to their centre, they were surprised and very appreciative.
Personal Development Pathway Program
HBUFC believe a player has 6 key development attributes linked like cogs that each effect each other, if is improved it can help improve the other. Each of the attributes has equal influence over player development. 50% of the attributes are on field, 50% are off field. Throughout the "Personal Development Pathway Program" we use 1 on 1 profiling interviews to find out the sparks of interest of our players in order to place them into local businesses. We accomplish to get them work and life experience for a career after football. Along with community service programs and participation on life skills trainings, they can mentor our youth players. HBUFC aim to create strong, principled young leaders on a pathway to success while uplifting an entire community.
Sisonke future stars
HBUFC partnered with the City of Cape Town and the Football Foundation to deliver football and life skills coaching. Sisonke Future Stars is run by four of our Elite Players who are trained, assessed, and audited by the Football Foundation. The Football Foundation also helps develop our calendar and comes and delivers special workshops multiple times a year. The academy has grown to 60 children and coaches have daily contact with them, giving them very powerful influential roles in their lives. The Sisonke Program offers great football, coaching, and life skills for young boys and girls of our community. It occurs three times a week and is run by the HBUFC Elite players. The life skills part of Sisonke is adapted from the Grootbos Foundation. We have now introduced a ladies session parallel to the boys session due to the increased number of girls attending!
Ikasi Leadership Program
The goal of the program is to help players to develop soft skills that aren’t taught at school, but are important for the success in their lives. The goal of Ikasi and the facilitators who run the program is to help the players develop these skills by learning through their own experience and reflecting alone at every stage of the program. The program take place every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00 to 5:00 at the office where the whole group meets to learn about a new topic every week. They get their workbook with interesting information, tools and models and there will exercises and missions for them to complete at the sessions and at home.
Kick around soccer
Every Wednesday at 8:00 PM we host a kick around session at the Hout Bay Sports Complex. We play full field games with rolling subs. Whether you're a quick young striker or a slow old defender, it's a great opportunity to lace up the boots, get out on the pitch, and interact with people of the Hout Bay Community. Come one come all. If you have any questions feel free to email firstname.lastname@example.org. We hope to see you there!
